Characterizing Positive Xylem Pressure in Grafted Watermelon
Tissue decay in the graft junction has been observed in Fascination watermelon grafted onto pumpkin rootstocks, but not in Maxima. Phyto-pathological analysis ruled out a single destructive pathogen, but several mild pathogens were detected, most likely infecting only structurally compromised tissue.
We aim to characterize physiological differences between the two cultivars, focusing on plant hydraulics and positive xylem pressure.
We developed a system to isolate and continuously measure the positive component of xylem pressure using pressure sensors.
